So Kenny and I shot a wedding this past weekend in Monterey, CA. We of course had to stop on the way up to grab some sunset shots. We also took some random shot in the deep of the night to keep us up at 2 in the morning. On the wedding day we had some time to grab a beer by the Monterey harbor before the wedding. It was a long trip, but the wedding was awesome and we got to spend some time with family. Hope you enjoy the pics, and wedding shots to come!

Kenny and I had the privilege of shooting this awesome family in Old Town Temecula this past weekend. This shoot was all made possible by twitter.....how you might say? Well, a while ago I met a nice lad by the name of Garth. Garth is another amazing designer in our area and I started getting plugged into his twitter network of artists, geeks, and freaks. Steve was one of these great contacts I met through Garth. Long story short......I'm going to be working on some exciting things in the future....all because of twitter and social networks. In short....use twitter.....you never know who is going to be on the other end.

Oh...we had a great time taking picture of these guys......they are awesome. Also, check out Steves site. He is a Local Search Marketer and does amazing things. :)

This is a week or so late, but I went to Yosemite National Park for Kennys Birthday. I was only there for a couple days but, it was well worth the drive. As you can see below, we did a lot of hiking, chilling around the fire, and (of course) taking pictures. The drive home was miserable (see the last picture), but I made it alive. Peace & Love!

So Erica and I are watching her parent Golden Retrievers for a week and started talking about getting a dog (which we have always wanted). We are talking to his parents owners (amazing people) and they are hopeful for his adoption also. He is a 4 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier. We will hopefully be meeting Zeek this week along with this grandpa, who is a champion show dog.

If you haven't heard of Staffys before go look them up. Probably one of the best dogs you could ever encounter. They are strong, extremely loyal, family oriented, protective, and great around other humans and children. I will keep you updated.

This morning I got to shoot my best friends wife, for their soon-to-be addition to their beautiful family. She is due in June and we can't wait for little sailor. Taran it a trooper! I made her be ready by 6:00am, crawl under a barber-wire fence, and dodge cow-pies for a good 45min. Enjoy!

Kyle & Prisilla get Engaged

For our last meeting we took a small hike to this cross behind our church on the top of a huge hill. We started hiking right after sunrise. The view was pretty epic, as well as the conversation. So I came across this wedding photography and videography company called Mind Castle. Erica and I sat in our bed and watched their vimeo videos for a good hour and a half. Erica cried (many times). Brent & Amy Get Married

Meet Priscilla....

So this past week I was lucky enough to land a great deal on new set if wheels. The whole process kind of snuck up on me. It all started when my old Scion xB (R.I.P.) had a blowout on the 215 and tore off my rear bumper. After getting a new tire and talking to my mechanic about all the necessary repairs this year, I decided it wasn't worth investing the money. Thank God Craigs List is around, because I was able to sell me car in 24 hours (..and for twice as much as the dealer was willing to give me). Once I parted was with the xB, my hunt for a new car began.

I was looking for a couple of different cars, but the Mini Cooper (with its style, affordable price, and great gas mileage) grabbed my attention and wouldn't let me go. Of course, it is a great time to buy (the dealerships are giving stuff away) so we landed a deal that evening. I officially named her Priscilla yesterday and would love to introduce you to her you whenever we see you next.

BTW, my partner in crime Kenny also got one this week (weird), so we did an extremely lame shoot with both our cars. The pictures came out good though.

This past weekend, Kenny, (partner in crime) and I drove up to see my Sister and her family in Santa Cruz. We initially went up to shoot my nephew Micah, but it turned into a slight photographic road trip. After a 7 hour drive, multiple photographic opportunities/bathroom stops, and three hours of sleep, we started off our saturday right with a hardy breakfast and some shutters snapping. I will be posting the whole trip this week, but for now here are my favorites of the shoot with the new member of the family. Of course, Kaleb wanted to some pictures by himself and of course I couldn't resist. ;)

P.S. Bobby wanted some cool self portraits also, so we snapped a couple quick ones for him too.

This past weekend was quite eventful. It started on Friday when I left work early and got to drive up a bunch of highschoolers up to winter camp. We ate some grub, and was entertained by tim's and franco's piano + harmonica duet of Bohemian Rhapsody. We had a chapel session and then hung out for a while and took pictures. (also...the pics of me was taken by a student I taught to shoot a digital slr.) The next morning I came down the mountain for my tattoo appointment. I had my outline finished and started color. I threw up some quick phone pics, but I will be posting some more images when i get a chance. Anyways, thanks for staying interested. Peace & Love.

Luxe Cabinetry

The company I work for, Lighthouse Marketing Group, just finished our logo fro Luxe Cabinetry. This was a logo redesign, from a preliminary concept they had developed. This was a fun logo to work with and everyone is really excited about the new look. The people heading up this company are awesome and I can't wait to begin their website.

So this weekend I went to LaCresta Mexican Grill for dinner due to the lack of plans. This is a restaurant that my company Lighthouse Marketing Group developed the brand and website for. Their food is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone in the Temecula Valley.....ANYWAYS, I took some shots of his desserts for their menus and got some free fried ice cream (my fav). I grabbed a before & after, and some other random shot while we were there. Enjoy!

Making Upgrades

So I finally sold my beloved Yamaha Stage Custom. (R.I.P) However, with the cash I received I upgraded my body....my camera body that is. I found it on craigs list and got a great deal on it. Came with the battery grip and an 8gig CF Card. The nice man, Mario, who sold it to me was a photo journalist from L.A. who just moved to Lake Elsinore. He apparently has about 4 5D's and wanted to get rid of some dead weight. I gladly took it off his hands.

So this last weekend we went out to Vegas to surprise Erica's Uncle Darel. We left Saturday morning at 5:30, drove 4 hours, played some video poker, had dinner, went to the club and people watched, woke up the next morning, ate the best haburger int he world at lbs, and drove back. Way too quick.

Doing Research

So I was doing research this week in preparation for my meeting with my future tattoo guy, Fabian Iezzi. I am going to start my half sleeve, and wanted to know a little more background on the artist of the piece I am getting done. Katsushika Hokusai (the man of wood block prints) did the famous painting The Great Wave of Kanagawa. This piece means a lot to me, not only because it has been one of my favorite painting ever since I started my career in art, but it is also significant because wood block prints laid the foundation for graphic design (another obsession/passion of mine). Anyways, I figured I would make a post in homage to his career as an art star.

P.S. I will keep you updated and will be posting pics when the masterpiece is completed.

CRAZY STORY

This was a review for a book on amazon. Seriously read the whole thing.

Please allow me to share with you how "The Secret" changed my life and in a very real and substantive way allowed me to overcome a severe crisis in my personal life. It is well known that the premise of "The Secret" is the science of attracting the things in life that you desire and need and in removing from your life those things that you don't want. Before finding this book, I knew nothing of these principles, the process of positive visualization, and had actually engaged in reckless behaviors to the point of endangering my own life and wellbeing.

At age 36, I found myself in a medium security prison serving 3-5 years for destruction of government property and public intoxication. This was stiff punishment for drunkenly defecating in a mailbox but as the judge pointed out, this was my third conviction for the exact same crime. I obviously had an alcohol problem and a deep and intense disrespect for the postal system, but even more importantly I was ignoring the very fabric of our metaphysical reality and inviting destructive influences into my life.

My fourth day in prison was the first day that I was allowed in general population and while in the recreation yard I was approached by a prisoner named Marcus who calmly informed me that as a new prisoner I had been purchased by him for three packs of Winston cigarettes and 8 ounces of Pruno (prison wine). Marcus elaborated further that I could expect to be raped by him on a daily basis and that I had pretty eyes.
Needless to say, I was deeply shocked that my life had sunk to this level. Although I've never been homophobic I was discovering that I was very rape phobic and dismayed by my overall personal street value of roughly $15. I returned to my cell and sat very quietly, searching myself for answers on how I could improve my life and distance myself from harmful outside influences. At that point, in what I consider to be a miraculous moment, my cell mate Jim Norton informed me that he knew about the Marcus situation and that he had something that could solve my problems. He handed me a copy of "The Secret". Normally I wouldn't have turned to a self help book to resolve such a severe and immediate threat but I literally didn't have any other available alternatives. I immediately opened the book and began to read.

The first few chapters deal with the essence of something called the "Law of Attraction" in which a primal universal force is available to us and can be harnessed for the betterment of our lives. The theoretical nature of the first few chapters wasn't exactly putting me at peace. In fact, I had never meditated and had great difficulty with closing out the chaotic noises of the prison and visualizing the positive changes that I so dearly needed. It was when I reached Chapter 6 "The Secret to Relationships" that I realized how this book could help me distance myself from Marcus and his negative intentions. Starting with chapter six there was a cavity carved into the book and in that cavity was a prison shiv. This particular shiv was a toothbrush with a handle that had been repeatedly melted and ground into a razor sharp point.

The next day in the exercise yard I carried "The Secret" with me and when Marcus approached me I opened the book and stabbed him in the neck. The next eight weeks in solitary confinement provided ample time to practice positive visualization and the 16 hours per day of absolute darkness made visualization about the only thing that I actually could do. I'm not sure that everybody's life will be changed in such a dramatic way by this book but I'm very thankful to have found it and will continue to recommend it heartily.

We have a lot planned for these guys, but we are getting started with a simple campaign t bring in some memberships from the local church community. Kyles Drum Studio

So 17 years ago I started playing drums in elementary school with this amazing dude, Kyle. Well, 6,205 days later we are still hommies and Kyle is starting up his drum studio/drum lessons business. Luckily he knows an awesome friend like me who can design and take an ok photo. This was the first time I got to use my new beauty dish, and I'm pretty pleased. Anyways, these are some of my favorites....

Pepsi Appiffany

So after a 2.5 hour meeting with a client about Rebanding and Brand Integration, I had an appiffany. As I was loading the office fridge with Pepsi, I realized that what I had been talking about to a client for 2 hours was materializing right in front of me.

- 1st that rebranding is vital in the success of a company's survival over generational and social trends (Duh, both Wal-mart and Pepsi did this year). Obviously if you have watched tv or walked through grocery store, you see the change.

- 2nd that when rebanding an already established brand, slow integration is crucial. As I was loading the fridge I noticed that the packaging of the Pepsi 12 Pack was suited up with the fresh new brand. However, the cans inside still had the old logo and packaging. Therefore, even Pepsi, had a caliber of integration with the new brand and is still making a slow transition (& probably getting rid of old supply).

- 3rd that when the new rebrand is integrated, it is also vital that the consumer market and the product's/company's clientele are given an explanation and notification of the progression. I went Pepsi's website and noticed the have a whole page showing the "Yesterday" & "Today" of Pepsi. They even showed the old brands going back to 1898. The site also had flash animations showing the old mark transforming into the new mark accompanied with quotes like "We celebrate tomorrow, but honor yesterday." Obviously, they aren't hiding the change.....

NEWCASTLE VS. DOWNTOWN BROWN

So yesterday I was at Yardhouse Restaurant in Rancho and was feeling daring. I asked the bartender for something that was comparable to Newcastle Brown Ale. I told him that I love Amber and Brown Ales and wanted to try something new. He recommended the Downtown Brown Ale. Its a small brew out of Eureka, CA and is quite tasty. I have a strong loyalty to the castle, but I think I might have a close second in which I pledge my loyalty. :)

Just this year we have been through our 2 year anniversary, our graduation from college (her MA), our wedding, our reception, our honey moon, the stresses of moving into a new house, the loss of 2 beloved grand parents, and many other challenging, rewarding, and joyful times. So after an event filled Christmas Eve and Christmas day, Erica and I journeyed up to the mountains to meet up with my parents at the family cabin in Big Bear. After a 3 hour drive up a snow covered road (without chains) we finally arrived and got some rest. The next day was full of snowboarding and the ritual Christmas dealing (plus 1 day). The day after that we kicked back in the cabin and recovered from our beaten snowboard muscles. Anyways, here are some shots I got. This weekend I definitely shot the coldest shoot this season. We were out at the location at 7:30am and the grass was frozen and the pond was covered in fog. Hands down the best vocalist I have seen live ever. No exaggeration. I had the privilege of seeing Jonathan Butler tonight on the Dave Koz Christmas tour. The smooth jazz is cool, buy this man is absolutely an inspiration and a prodigy. He plays a rendition of Bob Marley's, "No Woman No Cry." Seriously flawless. If you appreciate a refined artist you will watch this movie all the way through.

Marketplace at the Diamond

So my company, Lighthouse Marketing Group, has partnered with Marketplace at the Diamond, an open air market in Lake Elsinore. Me and my partner in crime, Kenny had the responsibility of documenting the whole grand opening for the web site and promotional materials. Over the 8 hours there I came to 3 conclusions.

1. I want a miniature pot-belly pig
2. Climbing on huge truck for a pano is dangerous yet worth it.
3. Dutch people do burn even in december.

I came across some logos for Obama that didn't get used for his campaign and was taken back. The official logo for Obama was very nice, clean, balanced, but lacked originality. It's unfortunate that the other versions of the logo didn't get chosen because....well.....the others were awesome. Yet, I guess this is just confirmation that whether your client is a small business owner or the president of the most powerful country in the world, they will almost never pick the best option (daily struggle as a designer).

So I have been following many design blogs daily and came across this post this morning. You can read all the details below, but basically some amazing architects redesigned an old Reformed Church into a place of worship for any theist. Im not sure how I feel about the idea of have a worship place for anyone and everyone, but the architecture of this place is amazing. I don't think I'm ready to share my church with a bunch of Hindu's and Buddhists!?

"New Multi-faith Place of Worship by Theis and Khan Architects to Open for Whole Community. An exquisitely designed new multi-faith centre for worship and contemplation by Theis and Khan Architects will open in the New Year.

Created within the shell of an existing 1960s United Reformed church, lumen will be used regularly for Christian services as well as offering an open invitation to people of all faiths to use the spaces. The site has a rich history. The 1960s church replaced an older church, which was bombed during the Second World War, and backs on to an ancient burial ground for the people of Bloomsbury, now called St. George's Gardens.

There are three main elements to the redesign: a cafe clearly visible from the street through a dramatic 8m high window, a new sacred space for contemplation within the main body of the church and a new extension housing three community spaces. The new sacred space, known as the Shaft of Light is central to the design.

A large-scale intervention, rendered in white, is a spectacular conical, shell-like space, which reaches through the full 11 meters height of the building to a single roof-light. The Shaft of Light offers people from any faith or belief a secluded area for worship or for private gatherings.The quality of the light inside the space subtly changes, depending on the weather and time of year, adding to the sense of peace and separation from the bustle of the outside world."
