I understand the frustration. But I believe this occurs because the client has the design all planned out in their minds (it might be a sub-conscious idea and it might be a horrible design) but they hire the designer to do the mechanics of creating that design, because they don't know how.
Just a thought. Probably doesn't help your situation.
I know....but I think thats what a desktop publisher is, not a designer. You can get a desktop publisher for a lot cheaper than a designer. If they don't want a designers advice, their wasting their money.
